About Us
Owners, Jeff and Joan Smith bring 30 years of aquatics experience to teaching and coaching. Joan was an NCAA All-American swimmer and track athlete. She was also one of the top professional tri-athletes in the United States. Joan has taught lessons and coached swimming for over 10 years.
Jeff resigned from Children and Family Pastor at Peninsula Covenant Church in Redwood City to direct King’s Swim Academy full time. His background in aquatics includes coaching masters, college, USS, YMCA and running a swim school. He was the aquatics director of a swim and tennis club of over 1,000 members.
Joan and Jeff have five children. Esther who is 18 and one of our teachers, David our 5 year old, Jonathan who is 3 and one year old twins Abigail Grace and Daniel Strong.
Our two highest priorities are quality teaching and clean, safe facilities. Our instructors are trained by King’s Swim Academy using our own floatation based curriculum. All of our quality instructors teach swimming skills in a fun, safe environment and do well with children of all ages and personalities.
What Our Families Say About Us
I have been involved in the swimming community since I was an 11 year old volunteer, and worked for 10+ years lifeguarding, teaching swimming lessons and running various swim programs. My daughter was just months old when she was first in the water, and in a local swim program by age 3. Because of my experience, I knew right away she was a natural in the water, however the program she was in was unstructured and didn't challenge or teach her. After a couple of frustrating summers due to the lack of progress, I researched other options and stumbled upon Kings Swim Academy. What a great find!
Within the first few lessons she was rapidly making progress. The teachers are loving and fun, yet disciplined and mean business. They connect well with the children, which helps very much with the learning process. All of the KSA staff is friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable. My daughter even participated in a kids triathlon last year at age 5, and was one of the only kids to swim the 25 meters with arms and side breathing and no floaties! At age 6 I can say she is water safe at all depths and we can relax while watching her swim. Without KSA I am doubtful she would be even close to this level!

Before coming to King's Swim Academy, we had over a year of lessons at
another well known school. I was concerned about the lack of fundamentals
being taught (including breath control and balance in the water). I am a
swimmer myself so I really wanted to make sure my kids were getting the best
foundation possible. I was so impressed by the way the kids were being
taught solid technique from the start. That technique not only makes
swimming easier but they won't ever need to "unlearn" bad habits later
in life. The skills they learn at KSA will last them a lifetime of
swimming!

My experience at King’s Swim Academy has been very positive. The instructors provide solid teaching techniques for all levels of swimmers. They empower the kids to make the best effort they can during each lesson. The staff is friendly, the facility is clean and the lessons always start on time.
